ONE of the original PlayStation's most famous games could fetch you a tidy sum.

Rayman came out on the Sony PlayStation way back in September 1995.

The legendary side-scrolling platformer was a Ubisoft (then Ubi Soft) creation that also launched on MS-DOS, Windows, Atari Jaguar, and Sega Saturn.

If you've still got a sealed copy of the "long box" version then it could be worth as much as $1,200, according to PriceCharting.com.

If that copy has been professionally graded then you're potentially looking at $1,320 – but that's not all.

An unsealed but complete-in-box version of the original Rayman has an apparent value of $62.78.

Sadly there isn't enough data for a loose disc price, but the box itself is valued at $19.99.

And the manual will potentially fetch you $8.24, which isn't exactly an early retirement fund.

Note that you might end up getting more or less than these values if you do decide to sell.

These prices are based on previous sales, but the collector you find might have their own value for the item.

"We update our prices daily from sources across the internet so you can be sure the data is accurate and timely," PriceCharting explained.

So what is a "long box" version of Rayman?

When the PlayStation first launched in the US, the games came in long boxes.

This format was eventually scrapped and replaced with the more traditional squared boxes we all came to know and love.

But the Long Box variants now have special value to collectors who tend to favor them over the more common square boxes.

Rayman rises!

Rayman (1995) was the first installment of the iconic Rayman series of video games.

Gamers would play as Rayman as he travelled across six worlds in a bid to take on the sinister Mr Dark.

The side-scrolling game was a big hit, landing to very positive reviews – and earning several awards to boot.

By the end of March 2002, more than 770,000 copies of Rayman had been sold.

The game was eventually released in other formats, for instance on the Game Boy Advance and even on Android and iOS for iPhone.

It was also included as part of a collection of 20 games that came pre-installed on the PlayStation Classic console released in December 2018.

Rayman is a well-known franchise, spawning at least 45 games across a wide range of platforms.

The latest entry was Rayman Mini for iOS in 2019, but Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope included a Rayman appearance in 2022.

And the last main title was Rayman Legends, which came out on PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2013.
