If you were playing video games in the early 2000s, you'll want to check the cupboards immediately.

CALLING all Grand Theft Auto fans – you may have a classic edition worth hundreds of dollars.

If you were playing video games in the early 2000s, you'll want to check the cupboards immediately.

This Special Edition version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is now very valuable[/caption]

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas came out on PlayStation 2 in October 2004.

But the game was re-released in 2005 as a Special Edition, with some bonus features.

It'll say "Special Edition" on a gold bar at the top of the case.

According to PriceCharting.com, a sealed copy of the game is worth $299.25.

And if you've had the item professionally graded then you could be looking at $594.93.

A copy that's complete-in-box but not sealed has a value of $41.60, while the loose disc is worth $28.05.

The box and manual are less valuable at $4.99 and $9.48 respectively.

If you do decide to sell your game, you could end up with more or less than these values.

These are estimates based on previous sales, so you might have better or worse luck with a collector.

"We update our prices daily from sources across the internet so you can be sure the data is accurate and timely," PriceCharting explained.

Extra special

What made the Special Edition particularly exciting was an included DVD called The Introduction.

This was a 26-minute-long film that was created inside the San Andreas' game engine.

It featured locations from the game (and Grand Theft Auto III) to give some background on events before the main San Andreas story.

This included CJ's life in Liberty City – the location of GTA III – as well as the drive-by shooting that killed his mother, prompting his return to Los Santos, where GTA San Andreas is set.

The Special Edition also included Sunday Driver, which was a documentary about a Los Angeles car club for low-riders.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas itself was a wildly popular video game that launched to critical acclaim.

It sold over 2 million copies within the first six days of release in the US.

And by March 2005, more than 12 million copies of the game had been sold globally on the PS2 alone.

By 2011, Rockstar Games said that 27.5 million copies of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas had been sold worldwide.
